The Afghanistan national cricket team on Thursday defeated the India Under-23 cricket team, in Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup in Singapore.
India Under-23s won the toss and elected to field first against Afghanistan in the List A match of the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup.
Afghan batsmen scored 184 runs by losing 7 wickets in 50 overs, with Samiullah Shenwari scoring the highest runs of 43 runs for Afghanistan, after hitting 1 Six and 5 Fours in 44 balls.
Openers Karim Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad made a partnership of 63 runs from 147 balls, by hitting 4 fours and 1 Six. The partnership was broken after Karim Sadiq was dismissed in 20.2 overs. He scored 25 runs from 60 balls.
Afghanistan lost it’s second wicket in 29.3 overs after Mohammad Shahzad was dismissed in AR Patel’s ball, and was caught by Aparajith. Nawroz Mangal was dimissed in 34.4 overs, Mohammad Nabi in 40.2 overs, Gulbuddin Naib in 44.6 overs, and Mirwais Ashraf in 49.4 overs.
Despite missing their main strike bowler Hamid Hassan because of stiffness, the Afghan bowlers did well to restrict the Indian batsmen in 156 runs.
The Afghan captain took 3 wickets in 10 overs by giving 32 runs, while Hamza Hotak and Rahmat Shah took 2 wickets each, and Izatullah Dawlatzai, Mirwais Ashraf and Rahmat took 1 wickets each.
The India Under-23 batmens scored 156 runs in 50 overs, by losing it’s 9 wickets. India is still placed in second place in Group A above Afghanistan.
This was India’s first loss in the tournament after winning against Pakistan and Nepal in previous league games. All three teams, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan had two wins apiece but Afghanistan lost out on net run rate.
