Wednesday, June 15 – The coach of the Afghanistan cricket team, a former Pakistan captain Rahid Latif has stepped down after Afghan cricket was whitewashed in a one-day series in Pakistan last month.

Afghanistan cricket team lost all three matches against the Pakistan A side in last month’s series.

Rashed Latif was appointed as Afghan cricket coach and had been in this job for a year.

During an interview with the Reuter Latif said, “ I have submitted my resignation to the Afghanistan cricket board and they have accepted it although my contract was until the end of July.”

He further said that continuing as a coach does not make sense for him when he can’t deliver with the team and the performance is also not up to his expectation.

He said, “The truth is I was not satisfied that my association with the team was producing the desired results.”

Latif, who has played in 37 test matches said that had great passion and potential despite losing all three matches.

Cricket has flourished in the country after being introduced by Afghans who were raised in Pakistan, in particular Peshawar.

The national side, which cannot play its home games in Afghanistan because of the security situation, narrowly missed out on qualifying for the this year’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan joined the International Cricket Council in 2001 and has one-day international status until 2013.

  1. We thank Mr.Rashid Latif for sharing his experiences, skills, and expertiese with our Afghan team and May Allah blessed him for that. At the same time I am wondering, who is gonna be our team’s next coach. Because they have match with Canada very soon, which they needs a coach in short period to make them prepared.
We wish U success in your up coming cricket matches Afghanistan.

  2. Afghanistan’s cricket team should be revised the players in term of age, talent and capability . Because now a days cricket very much depend on fitness talent unfortunately all players of Afghan team are above 28 age .
if National cricket board give opportunity for youngsters it will be quite usable for Afghan cricket team to take the spot of qualifying for 2015 world Cup which is going to held in Australia & new zaland .

hope our team qualified in 2015 world cup .
