Afghanistan beats Zimbabwe

The Afghanistan national cricket team defeated Zimbabwe by 4 wickets during the second One Day International (ODI) match of Zimbabwe tour of United Arab Emirates.

Zimbabwe set a target of 254 runs by losing 7 wickets after they won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Afghan batsmen chased the given target with a brilliant start by opener Mohammad Shahzad who scored 131 runs and led Afghanistan to second consecutive win in the 5-day ODI series.

The Zimbabwe bowlers managed to build a pressure on Afghanistan despite a good start by top order batsmen and took a number of wickets in the middle order, including Nawroz Mangal who scored 8 runs, Asghar Stanikzai who scored 1 run, Samiullah Shnwari who scored 4 runs and Najibullah Zadran was caught out afer scoring 9 runs.

However, opener Shahzad managed to build a partnership together with Mirwais Ashraf by making 56 runs and leading Afghanistan to a victory.

On the bowling side, Dawlat Zadran took 3 wickets, Mohammad Nabi 2 wickets and Rokhan Barakzai 2 wickets to restrict the Zimbabwe batsmen to 253 runs.

This was Afghanistan’s second win following a victory secured during the opening match of the series where Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe by 49 runs on 25th December.

Mohammad Shahzad was elected man of the match for his outstanding performance and remaining not out after scoring 131 runs from 133 balls and by hitting 7 Fours and 8 Sixes.

Opener Noor Ali Zadran scored 31 runs from 52 balls, Mohammad Nabi made 33 runs from 36 balls while Mirwais Ashraf remained not out after scoring 26 runs from 27 balls and by hitting 1 Fours and 2 Sixes.
