The Afghan Special Forces conducted an operation against the Taliban insurgents in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan leaving at least eight militants dead or wounded.

The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the North said the operations were conducted in the vicinity of Jangal Bashi village of Khaabad district late on Friday night.

The source further added that at least five Taliban insurgents were killed and three others were wounded during the operations.

Kunduz is among the relatively volatile provinces in North of Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

In the meantime, the Afghan forces have also stepped up operations to suppress the Taliban-led insurgency as the group attempts to carry out large scale attacks as part of their spring offensive.

Taliban militants have vowed to carry out attacks in key provinces and cities of the country including capital Kabul.
