Afghan soldiers to be court-martialled over wedding rocket attack

image (1)Two soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces are to be court-martialled over a rocket attack on a wedding in southern Helmand province.

Local officials in Helmand province said Friday that two soldiers were introduced to the military court over the mortar attack on a wedding.

Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Jan Rasoolyar said at least 17 people mostly women and children were killed following the rocket attack.

Rasoolyar further added that 53 others were also wounded following the incident which took place in Sangin district.

This comes as provincial police spokesman Farid ahmad Obaid earlier said 26 civilians were killed and nearly 45 ohers were injured following the incident. But, a member of the provincial council says at least 30 people were killed and around 60 others were injured.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
