Monday, August 15, 2011 – According to a press release by Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs, at least 20 armed insurgents were killed following an operation by Afghan police in coordination with army and NATO-led coalition forces during the past 24 hours across the militancy hit country.
The statement further added, Afghan security forces arrested 17 other insurgents during the operation.
According to MOI officials, the operations were conducted in Faryab, Zabul, Balkh, Kandahar, Khost, Paktia and Paktika provinces, one militant was also injured.
The statement issued by Ministry of Interior Affairs also said, a large number of arms and ammunitions including hand grenades and explosive devices were also discovered and seized by the police during the operations.
Afghan officials did not provide further details regarding the casualties of Afghan security forces during the operations and the Taliban militants groups yet to make comments regarding the operations.
