
Armed clashes that erupted between Pakistan’s border guards and the Taliban on Thursday, February 24, 2022, in Chaman, Spin Boldak crossing point left at least two killed and nearly 20 more wounded.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has claimed that the Pakistani forces have fired the first bullet.
Spokesperson of the IEA Zabiullah Muhahid in a Tweet said that the situation has been controlled and that they are investigating the incident.
“An issue has occurred with the Pakistani forces in Spin Boldak district of Pakistan. Unfortunately, fires were firstly opened by Pakistani forces. Officials of both sides have been informed and now they are working to resolve the issue and the situation is under control. We are investigating the incident.” Reads a Twitter post of Mujahid.
Sources have told AFP that the Taliban fighters are also among those who are killed and are wounded during the clashes.
Video clips that went viral on social media indicate that the Taliban are deploying additional forces to the crossing point.
Armed clashes in the crossing point that is situated along the controversial Durand Line is not something new, forces of both countries have been at loggerhead for many.
