Wednesday, August 17, 2011 – According to reports, a delegation from the Afghan Ministry of Mines visited Turkmenistan to discuss Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project with officials in Ashgabat.

According to an article issued by the Natural Turkmenistan newspaper, the meeting was held at the Turkmen Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and both sides discussed implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) project.

The source further added, the two sides agreed on a number of economic and technical issues on building a power line through the territory of neighbouring countries.

The starting point of the TAPI gas pipe line will be in eastern Turkmenistan and will have a length of 1,735 kilometers which will pass through the territory of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and will finally reach to India.

According to reports, around 30 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas will be supplied through the pipeline every year.

The TAPI gas pipeline project is considered as one of the biggest projects that could possibly boost Afghan economy which is crumpled by increasing instability.
