According to local authorities in Badghis province of Afghanistan, a number of local police officers joined Taliban militants group in Bala Morghab district.

Taliban militants group on Monday confirmed the report and said a group of 15 Afghan local police officers along with their commander Abdul Khaliq joined Taliban group in this province.

In the meantime provincial police chief Abdul Jabar Saleh said only two Afghan local police officers have joined with the Taliban group in Bala Morghab district.

Mr. Saleh further added it is yet not clear why Afghan local police forces joined Taliban fighters however local security officials launched an investigation in this regard.

A local government official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the report and said local police forces used to have strange behaviors with the local residents during the past one week.

According to reports around 150 local police forces are actively operating at Bala Morghab district in Badghis province.
