Afghan local police officer kill 7 comrades in Helmand

Afghan local policeAt least seven local police officers were killed following an insider attack in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan late Friday evening.

A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said the incident took place in Greshk district and the assailant police officer managed to flee the area.

The source further added all the weapons and equipments by were taken away by the police officer.

Insider attacks on Afghan and coalition security forces have created tensions among the Afghan and coalition officials.

Taliban group following a statement claimed responsibility behind the attack and said the assailant local police officer was a Taliban fighter and managed to flee the area along with the weapons and other equipments after the attack.

Taliban group in April announced that several Taliban fighers have infiltrated inside the Afghan security forces and will carry out attacks during their summer offensive.

This comes as an individual in Afghan national army uniform killed two US soldiers and a US civilian in eastern Afghanistan today.
