Afghan lawmaker escapes unhurt from militants attack in Baghlan

Taliban AfghanistanAn Afghan lawmaker escaped unhurt from an attack by militants in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

According to local security officials, the incident took place late Tuesday night in Kelagay area.

Provincial police spokesman, Jawid Basharat said a group of militants attacked the vehicle of lawmaker Aashiqullah Wafa while he was returning to capital Kabul.

Basharat further added that a security guard of Mr. Wafa was injured following the attack.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Baghlan is among the relatively peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan. However, the anti-government armed militants have increased insurgency activities in a number of its districts during the recent months.

At least eight people including children were killed and over a dozen other were injured following an explosion in Baraka district of Baghlan province last Friday.
