Unknown gunmen have killed an Afghan journalist in eastern Afghanistan.
Local officials in Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province say Aqil Mohammad Wiqar who was working with Speen Ghar Radio has been killed.
According to the officials Aqil Mohammad Wiqar was attending a wedding party in Hajian village of the Bati Kot district when unidentified gunmen attacked and killed him on the spot last night.
Shir Bahadur Himat, Director of the private Speen Ghar radio confirming the incident asked government to give severe punishment to the killers.
According to Himat, Wiqar did not have personal enmity but was reporting the reality.
This is the 1st journalist being killed so far this year.
No group has claimed responsibility for Wiqar’s killing.
Taliban have rejected hand in Waqar’s killing.
Last year 60 journalists were killed worldwide. Eight of them lost lives in Afghanistan, making it the deadliest year for journalists in Afghanistan.
