Media officials in Russia say that Ahmad Khaibar Akafi, an Afghan journalist living in Russia, has been severely injured due to an attack by an unmanned Ukrainian drone in Belgorod.

Margarita Simonyan, the head of the Russian television network (RT), wrote on her Telegram social media page: “Following the unmanned Ukrainian drone attack, Akafi is currently in a coma, an attack in which a four-year-old girl and her pregnant parents were killed,” as cited by Voice of America.

She said that the 29-year-old reporter, who had been covering the earthquake in Herat for some time, had taken leave to visit his family who lived in Belgorod in western Russia.
One of Mr Akafi’s relatives has confirmed this news, and his wife’s condition is not a cause for concern.

Previously, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the region governor, had stated that three people, including a child, were killed due to the wreckage of an unmanned Ukrainian drone crashing into a house.

According to reports, the wreckage of this drone destroyed several houses upon impact.

Authorities had previously reported the discovery of a man’s and a woman’s bodies under the rubble. They said another injured man and woman had been taken to the hospital.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has stated that the attack by an unmanned Ukrainian drone in the Belgorod region was thwarted.

However, the ministry has not provided information regarding casualties resulting from the incident, and whether these were separate incidents remains undisclosed.

After Ukrainian forces initiated anti-attack operations in June, Russia has witnessed multiple attacks.
