NDS spokesman Haseeb Sediqi told reporters on Friday that the suspected smuggler was identified as Syed Karim who is originally a resident of Nuristan province.

Sediqi further added that the smuggler was looking to smuggle 27 children aged between 5 to 10-year-old to Punjab province of Pakistan.

He said the children were collected by Syed Karim from various parts of Nuristan province and was arrested from Jalalabad city of eastern Nangarhar province.

According to Sediqi, Syed Karim was looking to deploy the children to religious Madrasas (religious schools) in Pakistan so that they could be brain-washed and used as suicide bombers.

sediqi said the children were handed over to a tribal elder in Nuristan province and will be transferred to their families.
