image (1)A suicide attack plot by the Haqqani terrorist network was foiled by the Afghan national security forces in eastern Laghman province.

The Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Saturday that the suicide bomber wanted to carry out an attack in Mehtarlam city.

A statement by NDS said the detained suicide bomber was identified as Abdul Razaq who was appointed by the Haqqani terrorist network to carry out an attack using a motorcycle packed with explosives.

In a separate operation, the Afghan intelligence operatives arrested a Taliban commander who was leading a group of 20 insurgents in this province, the statement added.

According to NDS, the detained Taliban commander was identified as Idrees who was actively involved in various insurgency activities across Laghman province.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Laghman is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts.
