NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil told Afghan Afghan parliament members that a number of high level Afghan governmet officials are also among those detained by Afghan security forces.
This is the first time Afghan intelligence arrest high level Afghan government officials over espionage charges to neighboring countries of Afghanistan however the issue of intelligence infiltration by neighboring countries to Afghanistan is not new.
Anti-government opposition leaders and political analysts have long been criticizing the Afghan government for failing to recognize and detain spies working for the neighboring nations inside the government organizations.
Afghan NDS Rahmatullah Nabil did not disclose further information regarding the exact locations from where the suspected spies arrested however he said the detention of the individuals was a major achievement for the Afghan intelligence department.
This comes as owner of two media agencies Hussain Yasa was arrested recently over espionage charges and was released later on.
Hussain Yasa also has close connections with a number of Jihadi leaders in Afghanistan. His detention by Afghan intelligence created tensions among the anti-government political leaders.
Afghan NDS chief Rahmatullah Nabil said Mr. Yasa has Pakistani national identity and is visiting the Pakistan embassy in capital Kabul.
However anti-government opposition leaders denied the reports and said Mr. Yasa was arrested over political motives and not espionage charges.
