Afghan goalkeeper nominated for Germany’s best athlete of the year award

Mansur FaqiryarAfghan footballer and goal keeper of the national football team of Afghanistan, Mansur Faqiryar has been nominated to receive the best athlete of the year – North Athlete of the Year Award in Germany.

The winner of the award will be selected based on a poll conducted by Germany’s NDR Television Network.

Faqiryar has been nominated for the award for his outstanding performance in VfB Oldenburg football division. He also shined in Afghan national football team during the South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) championship.

According to the NDR Television Network, initial poll reports suggest that Afghan goalkeep Muslim Faqiryar along with Germany’s best tennis athele Tommy Haas, and German footballer Marcell Jansen are the leading athletes to receive the award.

The voting for the best athlete of the year will continue until 6 January 2013, where the voters will vote for the athletes, who had the most impressive performance in 2013.

The North Athlete of the Year award is given to the best athlete by NDR Television Network each year, and this will be the first time a member of the Afghan national football team has been nominated for the award.

The 27-year-old, Mansur Faqiryar was also recognized as the best player and best goalkeeper in South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) championship. He has also for VfB Oldeburg football club in Germany, where he has participated in at least 15 football matches.
