terrorist attack plot foiled in FaryabThe Afghan national security forces thwarted a terrorist attack plot aimed at disrupting the Eid celebration in northern Faryab province.

According to local government officials, the anti-government armed militants were looking to carry out explosion in Maimana city during the first day of Eid.

Provincial police chief, Gen. Abdul Nabi Elham said Afghan forces defused explosives seized from Maimana city before the militants manage to carry out an explosion in the city.

Gen. Elham further added that another terrorist attack plot was foiled after Afghan forces discovered and seized two rounds of improvised explosive device (IED) from Khan Char Bagh district.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are active in a number of its districts.

This comes as interior ministry officials said necessary precautions have been taken to prevent terrorist attacks during the Eid days in the country.
