The Afghan national security forces thwarted a car bombing in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, local officials said Sunday.
Provincial police spokesman Farid Ahmad Obaid said the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) was seized by Afghan forces from Lashkargah city late on Saturday evening.
The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts and often carry out insurgency activities.
At least three policemen were injured following a suicide attack using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) in Lashkargah city around two weeks ago.
The militants also carried out a VBIED attack in Greshk district of Helmand province late in the month of October which left at least two policemen martyred and five Afghan army soldiers wounded.
