The Nangarhar provincial government media office in a statement said the weapons and ammunition were seized from a trailer vehicle during a search operation in Behsud district.
The statement further added that the Afghan security forces conducted a search operation in Nawi Gomrok area on Tuesday night and discovered the weapons and ammunition hidden among the cement bags.
According to the provincial government, at least 146 different types of pistols and 6 machines guns were among the weapons seized by the security forces.
The provincial government also added that the militants wanted to distribute the weapons to different parts of Nangarhar province for the destructive activities.
No suspect has been detained in connection to the transport of the weapons and ammunition but a search operation is underway in this regard, the statement added.
The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the confiscation of the weapons so far.
Both the Taliban militants and terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State terror group are active in some remote parts of the province and often carry out insurgency activities.
