The Afghan national security forces have retaken full control of Khanshin district in southern Helmand province of AFghanistan, security officials said.
Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the district has been fully cleared of militants during operations conducted jointly by Afghan army and police forces.
The control of the district fell as a result of coordinated attacks launched by the Taliban militants nearly two weeks ago.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far which comes as the security situation has sharply deteriorated in Helmand province during the recent months.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
This comes as there have been growing concerns that the Taliban insurgents are attempting to establish the group’s council in Helmand province as they are trying to bring the province under their control by intensifying attacks.
