Afghan forcesThe Afghan national security forces have resumed clearing operations in Dangam district of eastern Kunar province, local officials said Friday.

Provincial acting governor Shuja-ul-Mulk Jalala said the Afghan forces are supported by the air force during the operation.

Jalala further added that Afghan special forces were deployed in different parts of Dangam district with the helicopters to fight with terrorists.

The Taliban militants launched coordinated attacks in Dangam district earlier in December last year, sparking heavy clashes which continued for almost two weeks.

According to Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials, foreign fighters, including Chechens, Uzbeks and Arab insurgents were also fighting with the Afghan security forces.

Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
