Wednesday, August 03, 2011 – Officials in Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs on Tuesday said, Afghan security forces are ready for the second phase of security handover from the NATO-led international forces.
Afghan security forces received the security responsibilities for seven regions including capital Kabul during the first phase of security transition from the foreign forces.
According to Interior Ministry Spokesman Sediq Sediqi, “we are still studying the second phase of the process and in a month or two we will begin with the second phase considering our reviews from the first phase of the process. There is a positive understanding about the process and we are prepared to get into the second phase.”
Mr. Sediqi further added, Afghan security forces managed to close a factory that was producing military uniforms illegally in the outskirts of Kabul.
He also said, at least six suicide bombers who wanted to carry out suicide attacks during the month of Ramadan and had disguised themselves in women’s clothes were arrested by Afghan security forces during the past one week.
In the meantime, chief of transition process earlier this week said that there are challenges and perils facing security handover process in the country.
While speaking during a session, Transition Chief Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said, Afghanistan still fails to find its moral, political, social and economic gravity centres.
Mr. Ahmadzai further added, the handover process has a gradual goal.
During the first phase of security handover, Afghan security forces have so far taken the lead in seven areas, meanwhile, around 700 US soldiers were recently flown out of the country.
