Afghan cricket team arrives home with Zimbabwe series trophy

1 (3)The Afghanistan national cricket team arrived in Kabul on Thursday and brought home the Zimbabwe series trophy.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) members and a number of government officials welcomed the Afghan cricket athletes in Kabul airport.

Afghanistan played a series of matches against Zimbabwe which started on 18th July, and included four One Day International (ODI) and two unofficial test matches.

Afghanistan was declared winner of the series after the Afghan team won two One Day International (ODI) and one unofficial test match against a test playing nation.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chairman Shahazada Massoud and ACB chief executive Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad welcomed the achievements by Afghan cricket team on international level.

Dr. Murad said the performance of the Afghan team in One Day International (ODI) matches, is extraordinary since they are defeating prominent and experienced teams.

Afghanistan tour of Zimbabwe was organized with an aim to prepare the Afghan team for the upcoming ICC World Cup which is due to be held next year.

According to ACB officials, the series was a major event for the Afghan cricket team to further boost their skills for the ICC World Cup.

Afghanistan national cricket team is also expected to travel to Australia and New Zealand in September and October, in a bid to prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
