Afghan commandos kill 4 rebels with ISAF air support in Kandahar

Afghan commandosThe Afghan special forces killed at least four militants with the support of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in southern Kandahar province.

The provincial government media office said Sunday the militants were killed late on Saturday in Maiwand district.

A statement released by the government media office said the militants were crossing from Qala-e-Shamir area when they were traced and eliminated in an airstrike.

The statement further added that the militants were travelling in a vehicle.

Afghan special forces also confiscated a number of weapons along with ammunition following the operation, the statement added.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Kandahar is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts.
