Afghan Boxing Legend faces American boxer in ‘Fight For Peace’

The legendary Afghan boxer Hamid Rahimi who won the World Boxing Union (WBU) Championship earlier this year is due to face his American rival Rafael Bejaran in capital Kabul.

Hamid Rahimi achieved his first professional boxing championship built in 2010 after defeating his opponent from Germany in GBC tournament.

Hamid Rahimi started professional boxing career in 2007 and achieved his second championship built in 2010 after defeating his opponent from Georgia.

His boxing career started following a crucial experience after he left Afghanistan in 1992 along with his parents and three siblings due to civil war and shifted to Hamburg in Germany.

Subsequently, he visited Kabul and he was received by the Afghan Olympic committee, and the youth as a national hero. Later, President Hamid Karzai decorated the world boxing champion, with the Mir Masjidi Khan high government medal.

The latest match between Hamid Rahimi and his opponent from America will be organized on 30 October, 2012 and the two boxers will fight in Kabul in a bid to campaign for peace and stability.

The World Boxing Union (WBU) is going to award the peace built for the winner of the match, which is given for the boxers belonging to a war torn country.

Hamid Rahimi was born on 12th September 1983 in Afghanistan (Kabul).To date, his impeccable professional boxing record stands with 20 wins, which includes 9 knock outs and only 1 loss.

After his success in winning the World Championship, Rahimi says he is ready to face a well-known American boxer, and bring the fight to his home soil in Afghanistan; that would no doubt inspire a new generation of Afghan boxers and contribute towards building, national unity and peace.
