Afghan army to undertake security of Jowzjan province

Afghan Security Force are due to hand over the security responsibilities of Shebarghan, the central city of Jowzjan province from the NATO-led Interntional Security Assistance Force today.

Northern Jowzjan provincial governor Mohammad Alim Saie said, all the required preparations have been taken by Afghan security forces to main security and stability in this province.

Several cities, districts and provinces have been transitioned to Afghan security forces since the beginning of security transition in Afghanistan.

During the past one week Afghan security forces burdened shoulder the security responsibilities in northern Balkh province and a number of districts in eastern Nangarhar province, from the International Coalition security forces.

In the meantime, Afghan security forces are due to hand over the security responsibilities of eastern Kapisa province sometimes during or after the month of March.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy urged Afghan president Hamid Karzai to hand over the security of eastern Kapisa province to Afghan security forces.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said, Afghan security forces are prepared to take the security lead in eastern Kapisa province before 2014.

The decision by French officials is followed by the death of 4 French troops by an Afghan National Army soldier in this province.
