According to officials in the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan, Afghan National Army is preparing for the biggest military operation, which is expected to be conducted in the next two months.
Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Zahir Azimi following a press conference on Wednesday said that the coming military operation will be one of the biggest operations ever conducted in Afghanistan.
Gen. Azimi further added, the operation will be conducted under the leadership of the Afghans however he did not provide further details regarding the main objective of the operation and the locations where the operations will be conducted.
Gen. Azimi said, the operations will last for 18 months from the date it will start, which is considered to be one of the biggest maneuver for the Afghan National Army since they received security responsibilities for a number of regions in the country.
NATO and Afghan officials emphasize that the security transition has successfully been implemented so far as the regions which have been handed over to Afghan security forces have not witnessed any major instability.
The size of the Afghan National Army soldiers have grown to 180,000 so far which is expected to increase further up to 190,000 by October this year.
According to Afghan officials, Afghanistan requires an Army with a size of at least 240,000 soldiers to control the security of the country in the absence of NaTO troops.
