At least 15 Taliban militants were killed and dozens others were injured following joint military opertions by AFghan national army and Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.
According to local government officials, the operations were launched by Afghan army and Afghan Local Police (ALP) to clear the ara from militants activities.
A spokesman for the provincial security department, Shamim Ahmad Noorzai said the operations were launched in Nad-e-Ali, Nawa and Marjah districts.
Mr. Noori further added that Taliban militants suffered heavy casualties during the operations, but Afghan security forces did not suffer any casualties.
Ghazni is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan, where Taliban militants and insurgents from the other groups including Hezb-e-Islami are actively operating in it’s various districts.
The operations are launched amid growing concerns by local residents regarding growing activities of the militant groups in this province.
In the meantime, provincial security department spokesman, Shamim Ahmad Noori said that Afghan security forces discovered and seized at least 25 improvised explosive device (IEDs) during the operations.
Taliban militants are frequently using improvised explosive device as the weapon of their choice, which has incurred casualties to Afghan and coalition security forces besides incurring heavy casualties to Afghan civilians.
