According to local sources in Paktika province, a woman in Gomal district has killed her five-year-old child due to “economic issues,” while in Daikundi province, an elderly man was shot dead in Pato district.

According to sources, the first incidence occurred in the village of Kalaki in Gomel district, where a woman allegedly beat her child due to poverty and hunger until the child died.

The woman’s husband, according to sources, is an elderly man who is unable to work or provide for his family’s basic necessities.

Local sources in Daikundi province said an old man was shot dead in Tamran Bazaar in the province’s Pato district on Sunday evening, 5th June.

According to sources, the event was caused by personal animosity, and the Taliban confirmed the killing and stated two individuals had been arrested in connection with it.

Suicides and personal rivalries leading to homicides, target killings, honor killings, and road accidents have all escalated in recent months.

This comes at a time when according to the UN 97% of the Afghan population is susceptible to severe hunger and Afghanistan is in the zenith of unemployment.
