According to a top official on Monday, the third most populated province in China currently has nearly 90% of its residents infected with Covid-19 as the nation confronts an unprecedented rise in Covid cases.
The official report released last week shows that 120,000 individuals have been infected, and 30 have died since China loosened the Covid lockdown in early December, News 18 stated.
Another new estimation indicates that out of 99.4 million individuals, around 88.5 million may now suffer from Covid-19. Kan Quancheng, director of the health commission for central Henan province, announced at a press conference on January 6, 2023, as the Times of India reported.
This follows after the recent decision by the officials led to the lift of lockdown after three years and mass testing. Experts say that one of the contributors to the rising number of infected patients could be a massive gathering of Chinese on the Eve of New Year without any safety measures.
The Experts also warned about the need for safety measurement, which has to be followed, particularly when there is still doubt about the efficacy of the existing vaccines concerning the new variant of Covid-19.
The sharp rise in Covid cases is alarming and should be taken seriously by the Chinese and globally.
