At least nine Taliban insurgents were killed during the Maiwand-11 military opera rations in souther Helmand province of Afghanistan.

The Helmand governor’s office in a statement said Tuesday that the Afghan national defense and security forces have launched a counter-terrorism operation, Naveed-11 operations, for the elimination of the terror groups and security of the province.

The statement further added that the operations are currently being conducted in Nad-e-Ali, Garamser, and Sangin provinces with the support of the Afghan Air Force.

At least 9 insurgents were killed and another insurgent was wounded during the operations in the past 24 hours, the statement said.

According to Helmand governor’s office, at least two vehicles were also destroyed during the same operations and 27 improvised explosive devices were discovered and defused.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the reports so far.

Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern parts of the country where the Taliban insurgents are active in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.
