The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) executed a deadly suicide attack on a security convoy in Pakistan’s turbulent northwest, claiming nine soldiers’ lives and injuring 20 more.

A suicide bomber on a bike targeted a military convoy in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the incident. The attacker crashed into a convoy vehicle, resulting in the death of nine soldiers.

A press statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated, “On August 31 2023, a motorcycle-borne suicide bomber exploded himself on a military convoy in general area Jani Khel, Bannu District. Resultantly, nine soldiers, including Naib Subedar Sanobar Ali, embraced shahadat, while five soldiers were injured.”

Security officials estimated that 20 people had been injured. However, they shared the information anonymously due to a lack of authorization to speak on the record with the media.

Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan accepts responsibility for the attack. On the other hand, law enforcers swiftly secured the blast site and cordoned off the area, and large-scale search operations were initiated to apprehend attackers.

The militants, including TTP and BLA, have recently increased their attacks on different parts of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting police officers, government officials, and foreign nationals.

Last month, TTP militants attacked a police checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing two police officers and injuring two others.

On January 30, a Pakistani Taliban suicide bomber detonated himself during an afternoon prayer, resulting in casualties among soldiers.
