Pakistan security forces stormed a militant hideout close to the Afghanistan border. The military reported that a battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of eight insurgents, two children, and two soldiers.
The operation was launched in South Waziristan, a district in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan; it is unknown whose fire killed the two kids.
In a recent report, Pakistan became the second country to suffer from Terrorism-related deaths worldwide in 2022, released by Global Terrorism Index on Tuesday.
The report indicated that military personnel are considered the most victims of terror attacks in the country, counting for 55 per cent, while BLA targeted military personnel by 95 per cent in 2022.
The Tehreek-e-Pakistan Taliban (TTP) and the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) are listed as the “fastest-growing terrorist groups in the world”. According to the report, they are the deadliest terror groups in the country.
The report also stated, “It is likely that terrorist activity will continue along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border (Waziristan) despite counter-terrorism efforts.”
However, the Pakistani army claimed South Waziristan served as a base for TTP and other militants, now cleared from insurgents.
