At least 70 Taliban militants have been killed and over 100 others have been injured during ongoing clashes in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.
Local officials in Helmand province said the militants were killed or injured during clashes in Nawzad district.
Syed Murad Agha, district chief of Nawzad, said at least 15 policemen were also killed and 7 others were injured during the clashes.
Murad Agha further added that heavy clashes are still going on between the Afghan security forces and Taliban militants in Mosa Qala, Kajaki and Sangin districts.
He did not disclose further information regarding the exact number of civilian casualties during the clashes; however, he said, around 2000 families were forced to flee the area.
Murad Agha said additional forces have been deployed to force Taliban militants leave the area.
Clashes in southern Helmand province erupted around six days ago in Sangin district and according to reports around 800 Taliban militants are involved in the offensive against the Afghan security forces.
