7 militants blown up by own explosives in Nangarhar

Nangarhar provinceAt least seven militants were blown up by their own explosives in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan late Friday evening, interior ministry announced Saturday.

According to a statement released by interior ministry media office, the militants were killed inside a mosque while they were manufacturing an improvised explosive device (IED).

The statement further added that the incident took place in Shirzad district, and the only the militants involved in creating the improvised explosive device (IED) were killed following the explosion.

Taliban militants group and other insurgent networks frequently use improvised explosive device (IED) as the weapon of the choice to target Afghan and coalition security forces.

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are also considered to be one of the major factors behind increased civilian casualties in Afghanistan, besides incurring casualties to Afghan security forces.

The United Nations in its report regarding the civilian casualties, urged the Taliban group to prevent use the improvised explosive device (IEDs).
