The Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Wednesday at least 60 Haqqani Network militants were killed along with a number of foreign militants during an attack on Afghan military base in eastern Paktika province of Afghanistan.
NDS officials said the coordinated attack was carried out late Sunday night in Zeruk district.
The officials further added that nearly 300 Haqqani Network militants along with foreign rebels participated in the attack to capture the Afghan military base.
A number of suicide bombers also attacked the military base, NDS officials said, adding that 60 militants were killed after Afghan security forces responded to the attack with the support of coalition forces airstrike.
NDS officials also added that dozens of assailant Haqqani network and foreign militants were injured during the clashes.
At least five Afghan soldiers were killed, one soldier was abducted and six others were injured during the clashes, defense ministry officials said Tuesday.
Gen. Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the defense ministry of Afghanistan said 49 militants were killed and dozens of others were injured during the clashes with the Afghan security forces.
