6 Taliban militants killed, 7 injured in Badakhshan operations

Panjwai residents uprise agaisnt Taliban in KandaharAt least 13 Taliban militants were killed or injured during a military operation in north-eastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

Provincial governor spokesman, Ahmad Naweed Frotan said the operation was conducted by Afghan national police forces in Jurm district of Badakhshan rovince.

Mr. Frotan further added that six Taliban militants were killed and seven others were injured during the operations.

Badakhshan is among the relatively peaceful provinces in north-eastern Afghanistan during the recent years, however, Taliban militants have increased their insurgency activities in parts of Badakhshan province.

Various incidents including attacks on Afghan security forces have been reported in a number of districts of Badakhshan province, specifically in Wardooj district during the recent months.

Dozens of Afghan police officers were killed or injured and several others were kidnapped following a deadly ambush by Taliban militants in Wardoj district late in September this year.

Taliban militants also took control of Kuran Wa Munjan district following an offensive late in September, but the control of the district was retaken by Afghan security forces.
