As a result of a knife attack in Sydney, Australia, at least six people have been killed, with several others injured, including a 9-month-old child, and the attacker has been shot dead by the police.

According to BBC citing police reports, the wounded have been taken to hospitals, and the condition of several of them is critical.

The incident occurred Saturday, April 13th, at Westfield shopping center, one of Sydney’s largest shopping centers, which was crowded with people, including many children and teenagers.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the attack shocking in a post on the X social media platform and said that the disturbing impact of these scenes is beyond what can be expressed or understood.

Emergency was declared in the city, and people were asked to stay away from the area.
A Sydney police deputy said in a press conference that a police officer near the scene shot the attacker.

Sydney police also stated that the attacker “acted alone,” and an investigation into his motives has begun.
