According to local authorities in western Afghanistn, at least five Afghan border protection troops were killed in western Herat province.
Sulaiman Amar Khel chief of the Afghan Border Protection Rapid Reaction forces said, the incident took place after a number of armed militants ambushed Afghan Border Protection froces in Dahan-e-Zulfiqar at Gulran district of western Herat province.
Mr. Amar Khel further added, at least four border protection troops were killed along with a border protection force officer following the militants ambush.
No group including the Taliban militants have so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
This comes as Afghan security forces recently received security responsibilities in a number of western Herat province regions during the second phase of security transition.
