earthquake in AfghanistanA relatively powerful earthquake jolted capital Kabul and the surrounding areas of the city later this afternoon.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Northwest of Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

According to USGS the earthquake started 45km Northwest of Alaqahdariye Kiran wa Munjan district with the location recorded 36.434°N 70.670°E having a depth of 213.1 km.

There are no reports regarding the casualties or destruction as a result of the quake so far.

This comes as a mild earthquake jolted Kabul city on 15th of June with epicenter of the quake reported in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.0 with the epicenter recorded in Jurm district having a location of 36.097°N 70.301°E and depth of 43 km.

This comes as a powerful earthquake jolted Afghanistan including capital Kabul in the month of October with Richter scale recorded at 7.5 magnitude.

At least 115 people lost their lives and over 500 others were reported to have sustain injuries with damages reported to at least 4,000 houses.
