An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 hit the Taloqan centre of Takhar province of Afghanistan on Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ)

The earthquake occurred at 4:00 am local time at 149 km depth on Sunday, March 18th, 2023.

Takhar province of Afghanistan has frequently been shaken by earthquakes, which has raised experts’ concerns.

The country’s two provinces, Takhar and Badakhshan, are the most disaster-prone regions, which hit more than ten shakes in two weeks, as reported by Indian Seismology and German Center.

The report also said that the Takhar and Badakhshan provinces of the country witnessed landslides and avalanches during the current winter, and several people were killed and injured.

The province’s regular earthquakes highlight the region’s vulnerability to disaster and serve as a reminder to exercise greater caution when it comes to solid tremors because the expert has predicted that Afghanistan will experience an earthquake soon.
