Afghan vote auditThe Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) said Monday that nearly half of the presidential ballots have been audited so far.

IEC spokesman, Noor Mohammad Noor, said around 11,133 ballot boxes which forms 48.7 percent of the total ballots, have been audited so far.

Noor further added that half of the presidential ballots audit was completed in almost one month period.

He said 613 IEC employees are also invovled in the audit process where 484 employees have taken part in the normal audit process and the remaining 129 employees are invovled in the special audit of 6,000 ballot boxes.

Accoridng to Noor, around 76 ballot boxes were audit during the special audit process as of Sunday.

IEC officials have said the audit process will continue despite public holidays in a bid to end the lengthy election process.

The audit process has been halted on numerous occassions due to disputes between the presidential camps of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

In the meantime, Noor said that the audit process is being accelerated as each day passes and the election commission is expecting to finalize the process and announce the results as scheduled.
