4 senior Taliban commanders killed in Zabul clashes

TalibanAt least four senior Taliban group commanders were killed following clashes with the Afghan security forces in southern Zabul province of Afghanistan.

According to local authorities, the Taliban commanders were killed after attacking Afghan security forces check posts in Shahjoi district.

Provincial police chief Mirwais Noorzai confirmed that the militants launched coordinated attacks on 4 check posts of the Afghan security forces on Wedesnday evening.

Noorzai said clashes between the Afghan forces and the Taliban militants continued for at least hours.

He also added that the senior Taliban commanders killed during the gun battle have been identified as Mullah Zahid, Qari Asif, Mullah Naqib and commander Aibak.

According to Noorzai at least eight Taliban insurgents were also killed during the gun battle.

Zabul is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
