
At least 4 inmates were killed and several others including security personnel were wounded during a clash in Pul-e-Charkhi prison of Kabul, the security officials said.
The incident took place earlier today as the security forces and prison personnel had launched an operation to collect prohibited items from the prison cells.
Officials in the Ministry of Interior are saying that the clashes started in Block#4 of the prison when the inmates refused to hand over the prohibited items to secuirty forces and personnel of the prison.
Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the security forces initially tried to disperse the protesting inmates by firing in the air but the clashes intensified leaving 4 prisoners dead and 13 others wounded.
According to Rahimi, at least 20 security personnel including police officers have also sustained injuries during the clash.
He also added that the clash has ended and the security forces are in full control of the situation inside the prison.
