Four members of one family were killed when a Taliban mortar shell hit a house in the Shirzad district of eastern Nangarhar province on Friday night.

Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for Nangarhar governor said Saturday, that the incident took place in Shahbaz Khel village of Shirzad district.

According to Khogyani, the mortar shell hit a house belonging to a man named Sardar Malik in which three women and a child were killed.

Locals in the area also claimed that the shell was fired by the Taliban militants.

Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

Nangarhar is one of the most insecure regions in Afghanistan where the Taliban and other militant groups have massive influence in various parts of the region.
