With 32 skilled women in charge of the Kingdom’s high-speed rail network, Saudi Arabia now has a gender balance in its railway industry.

After a year of training, the Saudi Railway Polytechnic certified 32 women to operate the Haramain Express Train, according to the Saudi Press Agency on Monday.

The Saudi rail authority published a video on January 1st that included some women who had attended the training and spoke about how delighted they felt to have been a part of the new project.

Recently, Saudi women have gained the capacity to drive, contributing significantly to their empowerment to make significant economic contributions to the Kingdom.

Since 2018, the Saudi wise leadership has provided the opportunity for Saudi women to empower them to work in various fields to serve the country, including the Haramain Express Train project, said Rotella Yasser Najjar, one of the female drivers, reported Al-Arabiya.

Saudi Arabia plans to diversify its economy under the Saudi Vision 2030 to reduce its reliance on oil. Women are part of this vision to contribute to the country’s economy and take part in a broader range of jobs, including positions in the transportation and logistics sectors that were previously off-limited.
