Around 25,000 Trabzonspor supporters turned out to welcome Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah as he was officially presented as the Turkish club’s latest signing, marking one of the biggest receptions for a new player in the club’s history.
The 34-year-old forward joined Trabzonspor on a two-year free transfer after ending his nine-year spell with Liverpool. The Turkish club confirmed the agreement through Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform, with Salah set to receive a guaranteed €17 million per season, alongside performance-related bonuses and 20% of revenue from merchandise sold bearing his name.
Salah arrived in Trabzon on Wednesday before his official presentation at Papara Park. Thousands of supporters gathered in the city, while hundreds had earlier turned out at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport to greet him after his arrival in Türkiye.
The Egyptian captain said he was surprised by the scale of the reception. He told supporters that he hoped to help Trabzonspor compete for trophies in Türkiye and in European competition.
The move makes Salah one of the biggest names to join the Turkish Süper Lig in recent years and the most prominent signing in Trabzonspor’s history. The club finished third in the league last season and qualified for the Europa League play-off round, giving Salah an immediate opportunity to compete in European football.
Salah left Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season after nine years at Anfield. He departed with 257 goals in 442 appearances, ranking third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list. During his time with the club, he won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, among other major honours.
His final Liverpool season was less productive than previous campaigns, but he remains one of the most recognisable footballers in the world. In the 2024-25 Premier League season, he scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists, winning the league’s Player of the Season, Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.
The transfer also has significant commercial implications for Trabzonspor. The merchandise-sharing clause gives the club a direct financial incentive to capitalise on Salah’s global following, while his arrival is expected to increase international attention, shirt sales and sponsorship opportunities.
Salah, who is expected to wear the No. 10 shirt, arrives after helping Egypt reach the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup. His signing represents a major statement of ambition from Trabzonspor as the club seeks to challenge Turkey’s established Istanbul powers and make an impact in European competition.
