President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has introduced 24 cabinet nominees for ministerial positions to the Wolesi Jirga (Parliament) for confidence voting purposes, Afghan lawmakers are due to vote for the nominees soon.

President Ghani mentioned the major problems in the introductory session of the nominees for the Wolesi Jirga, saying that corruption is a major cause of distrust in the future, a clear example of which is the transfer of tens of billions of dollars to foreign countries.

The President added, Profits were made in Afghanistan but are transferred back to foreign countries.

Over the U.S-Afghan relations, Ghani expressed, that the recent airstrikes by US forces on the Taliban show that the United States supports the Afghan government and has assured it that it will cooperate fully with Afghanistan.

The president also said that the Taliban’s attacks on civilians mean that they have no intention of making peace, further adding “the recent Taliban attacks on Ghor and Helmand provinces indicate Taliban’s belief in false traditions of victory”.

President Ghani called on the parliament to support deep reforms in the Afghan National Army, National Security Forces, and the Afghan National Police, hand over the responsibilities to the professionals, and strengthen the rules on the relationship.

The president’s remarks come as peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban in Qatar have stalled, and War has intensified in the country.
