22-year-old woman shot dead by her relative in Herat province

A 22-year-old woman was shot dead by her relatives in western Herat province of Afghanistan, local officials said Tuesday. (File Photo)

The officials further added that the woman was shot dead by her brother-in-law in Injil district.

Provincial police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said the brother-in-law of the victim was arrested and a pistol was confiscated by police.

Ahmadi further added that the perpetrator has confessed to his crime and is currently in police custody.

In a separate incident, a 12-year-old was killed in the 9th police district of Herat city late on Monday night.

Ahmadi said the girl was mistakenly shot by her father and succumbed to her injuries after she was taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for the provincial hospital, Rafiq Sherzai confirmed that the girl was severely injured as she was shot in her chest and was taken to hospital late on Monday night.
